Pastel de nata, perhaps the most popular pastry in Portugal, and for good reason. The dish is over 300 years old and therefore an indispensable part of Portuguese cuisine. The recipe for pastel de nata originated in Belem, in the suburb of Lisbon. Originally it was consumed by nuns and monks, but today it is a very tasty taste sensation that can be found on every street corner.
